Caol Ila 12 Year Old

Caol Ila Distillery (pronounced ‘Kul Isla’) is located in a hidden cove near Port Askaig on Islay and has been transporting its whiskey to market by sea for over a century. Caol Ila is the Gaelic name for the strait between the Isles of Islay and Jura in one of the most remote and beautiful areas of the west coast of Scotland. The distillery was founded in 1846 and is located on the shores of the Sound, in a spot originally chosen in part for the clear water of Loch Nam Ban which is still the main source of water. Cool, sweet, fruity and velvety bodied, Caol Ila 12 years old has the color of a cob and a delicate balance of flavours. The clean, luscious nose reveals subtle citrus notes with a hint of smoke. Rich and velvety, it starts sweetly and then unfolds with an aromatic smoky character and a sweet, smoky lingering finish. This single malt was awarded the Outstanding Silver Medal at the International Wine & Spirits Competition 2015.
